show 176 – “rock block adieu”

I met with Jenn from the Wax Fire before the show, and she confirmed what deep in my heart I already knew: The Wax Fire are just too big for KPSU’s tiny interview booth. That, coupled with the fact that it’s hard to find a sound tech on a Sunday afternoon, meant that I was on my own for tonight’s edition. I was pretty addled for the first 15 minutes, but I managed to relax and do a show. I’m so used to the live segment that I didn’t have enough music with me (which is a crime — there are so many great songs I’ve discovered lately!) but I managed to cope, and made up for it by weaving in some old favorites.

Here’s the crime scene report:

Jill Sobule – Freshman – Underdog Victorious (Artemis)
Jill Sobule – Jetpack – Underdog Victorious (Artemis)
Jill Sobule – Cinnamon Park – Underdog Victorious (Artemis)
David Piper – Musta Gone Wrong – All Our Angels Past (Trough)
Be Good Tanyas – Lonesome Blues – Chinatown (Nettwerk)

Myshkin’s Ruby Warblers – Gypsytown – Corvidae (self)
Robyn Hitchcock – Statue With A Walkman – Sequel Sampler Promo (Sequel)
Mike Doughty – White Lexus – Haughty Melodic (ATO)
Nina Nastasia – What She Doesn’t Know – Peel Acres ’03 (BBC Session)

Mirah – Nobody Has To Stay – C’mon Miracle (K Records)
The Wax Fire – Mars – Brown Paper Envelopes (K Records)
Deb Talan – Whetstones – Something Burning (self)
Daniel Johnston – The Startling Facts – Artistic Vice (Positive)
Lightnin’ Hopkins – Short-Haired Woman – Gold Star Sessions Vol 1 (Arhoolie)

Xavier Rudd – 3 Degrees – Solace (Salt.X)

Looks like KPSU’s Archivebot grabbed all of the show. You can grab it yourself here.
